Ooh, I Want That!

The second NoMU poster that I worked on with Robert Miller was with the friendly and fabulous Vicky Sleet.

Like the CTG NoMU poster it apeared at the Woolworths Engine and had a variety of wonderful prizes up for grabs.

Vicky did the styling herself, tracking down a fabulous 50′s style dress, gloves, wig and even shoes that matched her belt. It comes as no surprise to anyone who has visited Vicky’s blog that she would put together a fabulous outfit!

Vicky’s blog that is all about beautiful people, places, designs, stationary and things. Basically she has great taste and celebrates all the things she deems wonderful on her lovely lovely blog. Click Here to check it out. I warn you though, you,re bound to find yourself adopting it’s title and shouting out (to whoever will listen:) “I want that now!”

Vanessa Haywood

I recently had the pleasure of painting the already beautiful face of Vanessa Haywood. I was expecting attitude and diva-esque demands from the star of the science fiction thriller District 9 but instead found myself having a good chat and a giggle with this blonde bombshell.

As you can see, we went for a smouldery, sexy yet sophisticated look. I used MAC‘s Studio Fix fluid to give her a porcelain finish beneath the harsh studio lights, MAC‘s moisture-blend concealer to blur any “imperfections” and cream blush to give her cheeks additional glow. Her classic smokey eye was created with the help of the ultimate smudge  kohl pencil in “smolder” and grey and silver pigments, and her lips were lined with “subculturelip pencil and filled with “lightning” limited edition gloss.

Vanessa is an amazing cyclist and has been sponsored by [ Read more ]

Melissa Plastic Dreams

Melissa Plastic Dreams is a shoe manufacturer I truly madly deeply love. Melissa began their journey 30 years ago, inspired by footwear worn by the fishermen of France, and today stand as the leader in design and development of jelly shoe technology.

Melissa shoes are made from MELFLEX plastic – a patented, hypo-allergenic, recyclable and extremely flexible PVC.  Melissa shoes recycle 99.9 % of factory water and waste, and use no animal products, making their shoes green and vegan friendly Furthermore, Melissa shoes smell like sweets and remind me of scented My Little Ponys and cupcakes. Even after a year, the smell dominates the shoe section of my walk-in-cupboard.

I first discovered Melissa shoes at Big Blue in Johannesburg and have never quite managed to get the obsession out of my system. They are extremely comfortable, smell delightful, and with the clever collaborations melissa holds with other designers, they hold… [ Read more ]

Lady Kaye’s List of Holiday Essentials

What holiday blog post would be complete without a list of the essential things one requires on an Island Holiday. Here are 10 things that you ought to make sure go into your suitcase and 10 of the most useful beauty products to pack.

1) Bikinis

If there’s only one thing you remember let it be your bikinis (or your boardies if you’re a boy). Pack more than one as a) there is nothing more boring than wearing the same tired bikini uniform day after day, b) Biknis get wet and c) alternating bikinis alternates tan lines (I packed 4 and would have packed more if my online purchases were more organised) and be sure to splurge on something pretty that makes you feel glamorous and sophisticated. Check online to see if your bikini has matching accessories (scarves and throw-over dresses) as it makes beach chic delightfully effortless.

Claudi

Kass is one of the best swimsuit photographers in our pretty city, so I wanted to make the most of this little test shoot we did for Claudi. I picked gold as my theme and accent, working with various hues and levels of reflection in the make-up. First I smoothed her skin with MAC’s Studio Finish Foundation. Then I contoured her face with a combination of Mac’s Sculpt and Shape powders, MAC’s loose Golden Bronze shimmer powder and Mineralise Skinfinish in Shimpagne and Shooting Star. I started on Claudi’s eyes by applying a thin layer of Guerlain Ombre Eclat Eye Shadow Primer - (which happens to be the BEST eye-primer I have ever laid my hands on) and then I shaded a traditional beauty eye using pigments for shimmer and MAC’s eye-shadows in “beauty marked”, “bronze” and “espresso“. I lined her eyes with” smoulder” eye kohl, smudged them with MAC’s #219… [ Read more ]

Pictures of Paradise

As most of you know, I have just returned from my vacation at Le Touessrok Resort aka paradise.

I have been agonising over what first to blog about, I’ve had requests for lists of products I take on vacation, what I pack into my suitcase, but mostly you guys have asked me for pretty pictures. I am not a photographer, and took these shots with a little canon powershot given to me by the lovely Robert Miller instead of my SLR, but I think they serve the purpose of illustrating some of my favorite things about the resort. Check out the Le Touessrok Resort site to look at more photos and to look at the golf course and other manly things that fail to interest Lady Kaye.

Before you look, try to remember that however lovely it may look in photographs, it is infinitely more impressive… [ Read more ]

From Mauritius with Love

Hello Darlings,

As many of you know I reside in the lovely city of Cape Town – the same place that has been hosting the soccer world cup for the past few weeks. Many Cape Tonians have caught this “world cup fever” and have abandoned their normal disinterest in soccer, adorned football shirts, flagged mirror condoms on their cars and hosted or attended soccer themed parties whilst merrily blowing into their vuvuzelas with gay abandon. I am not one of those people.

Immune to the “world cup fever” I have no shame in saying I STILL have no interest in soccer… and the thought of being in a room full of vuvuzelas scares me as much as being in a room full of screaming women and homosexuals at a Spring Versace/Louis Vuitton/Jimmy Choo fashion show (if South Africa would ever be so blessed as to host such a thing)… [ Read more ]

Storm in a Sweet Rub

Better late than never, this was the NOMU Sweet Rub competition poster featuring Cape Town Girl.

I used MAC’s Studio Finish foundation to give her even plastic perfection and mixed together “Rocking Chick” lipstick with “Show Orchid” Lipstick (both MAC) topped off with MAC’s clear lipglass for the loud and proud pout.

Tretchikoff & Me

For those of you who weren’t at the opening and have not yet seen it, get yourself over to Salon 91 on Kloof Street and check out the Tretchikoff & Me exhibition of vintage Tretchikoff prints, juxtaposed against the contemporary responses (ceramic, printmaking and photographic) of local South African artists. Niklas Zimmer is the featured photographer, and I painted the beautiful ladies he featured in his photographs using a combination of MAC and Chanel concealers and oil-based Kryolan face-paints. I achieved the “water droplets” with tubes of Mac’s clear lipglass. Far more impressive in real life – I suggest you take a wander down Kloof Street and have a look for yourself.

Our Team consisted of:

Photographer: Niklas Zimmer

Lighting Design: Yotam Sandak

Stylist: Bella Knemeyer

Hair and Make-up Artist: Samantha Laura Kaye

Assistant : Penny Youngleson.
