Little Red

As many of you know I was fortunate enough to work with Rick Nunn for a couple of days in 2011. After shooting “White in the Woods” we got onto something creative and attempted “Little Red.” Rick burgled his parent’s house for the basket, rented the cape from a local fancy dress shop, and I put together the rest with a little help from my theatrical wardrobe.

Rick shot the first three digitally – and the rest on expired film which is what caused the unusual colour tones and grain on the later images.

The first image above is my favorite – which is yours?

So those were the digital… but Rick also shot this on FILM with his Canon 1V-hs with the Canon EF 135mm F/2.0 L on expired Fuji X-tra ISO400 (which is where these amazing tones come from).

A streetcat named Sam.

In early 2011 Full Circle Model and Celebrity management put me on their books and made me a basic portfolio out of images I had collected from artistic projects with photographers over the years.

Beautiful as underwater and artistically driven images are, and as much as lingerie shows off the female form, my agency felt clients would feel more comfortable with the sexy and creative being diluted a little with some “digestible” and “normal” lifestyle images.

“Girl in jeans in street, girl hailing cab, lady being domestic with cookies or something” were the words my booker left me with to guide the direction of the test shoots I was likely to encounter whilst abroad.

These shots Rick took of me in the street, with unbrushed hair, minimal makeup and the very simple wardrobe of jeans and a vest turned out exceptionally well and my agency love them. *insert… [ Read more ]

Drive My Car… and baby I love you

Inspired by the amusing comments on Bangers and Nash’s post, today’s Thursday’s themesong is one of my old favorites and relates to these comments in ways I dare be more graceful than to mention so publically.

Enjoy… I always do… and remember – haters will hate and the loathsome will loathe … and nothing will make you feel better than loving them right back.

Nom Nom November

I feel like I inhaled November, like it played a trick on me, tapping me on the shoulder only to run away when I turned around.

November took me from England to Cape Town, reunited me with old friends, showed me a taller version of my baby sister, marked the date two of my favourite people got married and challenged me in a myriad of ways – showing me vulnerabilities I had almost convinced myself I no longer posessed.

I meant to blog… I had so much to say… but when one is still in the midst of unpacking, living out of bags and wandering from open window to open window a la stray cat it can be difficult to find the time to venture out in search of the internet.

You heard me correctly. Aside from the 3G… [ Read more ]

A week and I’m on a jet plane

It’s FRIDAY which marks 1 week until I fly to Cape Town, and the start of my last weekend in the UK until I come back in 2012.

My schedule goes a little something like this:  Travel for the short film – Friday – Tuesday (28th-1st November) act in said short film with manically long hours to finish on schedule. 2nd November – travel back to Woking to collect Summer S.A. suitcase and put wintery clothes worn on set but off screen into storage. Travel into London that afternoon/evening. Have as much fun as possible evening of the 2nd and 3rd (Wednesday&Thursday) – stay tuned for a bumper “weekend in pictures” . Breakfast at either St Ali or The Botanist on the 4th November  - last piccolo at Kaffeine – then to Heathrow to not miss my flight.

I arrive in Cape Town November 5th – I know I said I… [ Read more ]

Snow White’s Apple

“Snow White” and I have a few things in common – we both have red lips, pale skin, black hair – (ok mine is arguably brown but naturally black) both frolic in the forest, sing to animals and have terrible luck with apple’s.

This year I’ve managed to have a macbook pro stolen from under my table while I ate dinner at a restaurant, an iPhone4 smash and grabbed from my car (insert additional window replacement cost) and two Saturday’s ago my second iPhone4 – this one a 32gig model – was stolen from my handbag in a London club…

The frequency of stranger’s referring to me as Snow White coupled with this recent “apple curse” (through cruel twists of fate, circumstance and my own stupidity insurance has not assisted me with replacing any of these products) as my nearest and dearest are calling it  has led me to do… [ Read more ]

Deep Blue – Rick Nunn – Project 50

Remember that awesome photographer doing that awesome Project 50 thing I told you about yesterday? Well not only did he shoot me for day 11, but he also shot me for day 12.

Rick ordered an “o flash” online and decided I was a good test subject for his first shoot with it.

An “O flash” or “ring flash” is a ring of light that fits around the lens of the camera. Here is a picture to illustrate.

As you can see, the o-flash can be attached to the camera which makes it a popular choice for photographers at festivals or on the move as they do not have to carry bulky softboxes (those big square boxes on stands covered in sand bags and often with wires connecting to a generator or plug point) or beauty dishes (those big satellite looking lights.)

The advantage of a… [ Read more ]

Rick Nunn – Project 50 – Milk & Honey

50 photographs – over 50 consecutive days – all shot with a 50mm lens = Project 50. 100% awesome.

Rick is one of my favourite photographers, though he regards himself as a designer with a passion for photography rather than a professional photographer. If you take a look at his Flickr and his website you might take my side and view him as the camera wielding guru I do.

2011 sees Rick working on his third project 50, and I was lucky enough to be invited to take part as the subject matter for day 11.

You can view this photograph really really big here. There is also a wicked video which he does for each photograph where he goes through the lighting setup he uses and as a result of being in day 11 you can see me briefly making an appearance in said[ Read more ]

FHM’s 89th Sexiest Woman in the World

FHM South Africa came out with their 100 sexiest women in the world list earlier this year…. and much to my shock and disbelief I was on it!!

Thank you to Rio for bringing me a copy of the magazine, all the way from South Africa so that I could scan in the above photograph as well as the whole page:

Yep – I beat Ke$ha, Selena Gomez, Britney (99 – she barely made it this year), Kim Kardashian, Eva Longaria and a coupe of people I’ve never heard of. I had never entered a beauty pageant before or any sort of competition like this – but thanks to a series of online votes from the interwebs at large I was honoured with an official sexy stamp which I find puzzling, amazing, delightful and with a history of childhood bullying and low self esteem, a tad bizarre.

Thanks… [ Read more ]

Barbie gets inked with the launch of Tokidoki Barbie

We’ve all seen customised Barbie’s made by independent creatives, some of you might remember the Barbie-knockoff Spice Girl Dolls which were released with tattoo’s where the popstars were publicly known to harbour tattoos, but this Barbie is an official Mattel Barbie Doll – the first one in history – to be sold with tattoos.

Launching on October 8th at the TokiDoki Santa Monica store and will be sold for $50.00. Designed by Simone Legno, she has a modern (I can’t claim it to be fashionable, many would argue it’s very 2007) A-symmetrical silvery pink bob, leopard print leggings, silvery glittery shoes with black painted toes peeping through and a cluster of tattoos peeking out from her baggy heart and cross boned t-shirt.

She also comes with a pet that the official release phrases as her “cactus friend.”

I think she is absolutely adorable and would love to own… [ Read more ]
