Why Tigers have Stripes and Leopards have Spots
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in 2012 events, Cats, Science on February 21, 2012
Alan Turing was a busy man; he cracked the Nazi Enigma code, helped to end the second world war and is widely heralded as the father of computer science – yet somewhere between that he found the time to apply his mathematical mind to the ponderings of why Tigers have stripes and why Leopards have spots – one of nature’s little quirks that have fuelled conversation and folklore alike.
Alan Turing’s theory was that repetitive patterns in biological systems, such as a tiger’s stripes or leopard’s spots, are created by two different morphogens working together – one being an “activator” and one being an “inhibitor.”
Turing suggested – and documented in his 1952 paper The Chemical Basis of Morphogenesis - that one of these chamicals triggered cell activity whilst the other hindered it. The way that those morphogens interact, according to Turing, was responsible for creating the patterns and markings… [ Read more ]
#MCNAKED hits the shelves – Marie Claire’s Naked Issue is on sale!
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in 2012 events, Editorial, Lady Kaye on February 19, 2012

I’m meandering through the aisles of Pick and Pay in Constantia Village (somehow grocery shopping is slightly more tolerable at CV) when I see a silvery, bronzed, slightly red Marie Claire with Zef rapper Jack Parrow and his beyond beautiful model girlfriend Jenna Pieterson on the cover.
The Marie Claire Naked issue is on the shelves. Its Sunday. Its early. There’s a picture of me inside it without any clothes on.
I look around, unable to escape the feeling that I am doing something naughty, and then proceed to the nearest cashier.
I can’t bring myself to open it in the store. The average age of the sunday afternoon CV shopper seems unlikely to appreciate the inevitable flash of skin as I page through the 31 naked South Africans.
It takes me 8minutes (guesstimate) to find my car in the parking lot (40% full.)
Instead of looking for a silver… [ Read more ]
Sneak Video Peek at Marie Claire’s 2012 Naked Issue
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in 2012 events, Editorial, Lady Kaye, Modeling on February 15, 2012
This Monday (20th Feb) Marie Claire South Africa’s annual Naked Issue goes on sale.
This year 31 celebrities stripped it all off for the Burn Foundation Southern Africa. We felt what it was like to feel vulnerable and exposed for an afternoon – but for the thousands of people in our country who suffer from scars, disfiguration and social stigma as a result of being burnt; those feelings of vulnerability and self-consciousness are an every day reality they cannot “cover up.”
The Burn Foundation rehabilitates burn victims, helps to fund their hospital and surgery bills, and tries to educate people about preventing fires – if every home was equipped with a bucket of sand (many South Africans cannot afford proper housing let alone smoke alarms) a huge amount of fires could be controlled and extinguished before significant damage is caused.
You can donate money to… [ Read more ]
The broke guide to Valentine’s Day

Awesome card (and more) available here -> *click*
Vanletines Day is… tomorrow – and for those of you who didn’t buy one of the awesome things featured in my 2012 Valentine’s Gift Guide I thought I would give you some alternative and DIY ideas.
- Indulge your inner chef. Show your man or your lady that your culinary skills extend beyond an egg on toast – or if you are truly useless in the kitchen you can get sushi or your favorite take-aways and have a candlelit picnic on a blanket in your lounge watching your favorite/romantic movies.
- Picnics deserve a second mention. Granted, the mountain might be a little crowded with enthusiastic moonlight picnickers on V-day, but if you can find a secluded spot your picnic is likely to be more romantic than an overpriced meal in a room full of couples trying to buy romance.
February 5th is World Nutella Day
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in 2012 events, Food and Drinks on February 5, 2012

Of all the chocolately goodness in the world, Nutella stands out in my mind as one of the greatest – so why not take this opportunity to celebtrate it, eat it, bathe in it and play with it with the rest of the world.
World Nutella Day started in 2007 when Sara Rosso, an american blogging in Italy [Ms Adventures in Italy] felt a love for Nutella that warranted an official day in which to celebrate it. Now co-hosting the day with Michelle Fabio, editor of Bleeding Espresso, the Nutella enthusiasts have brought us an official World Nutella Day website offering us Nutella Recipes; guides on how to celebrate World Nutella Day as well as how to say “Happy Nutella Day” in almost every language!
Nutella, created in 1940 in Italy by mr Pietro Ferrero, was… [ Read more ]

Noeleen’s first CT seminar for 2012
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in 2012 events, Beauty, Tips and Tricks on January 24, 2012

Thos of you who follow me on social media will have heard me talking about Noeleen, the amazing feline model of firm female form who has been teaching me about nutrition, self control and who has been toning my body into something I’d be proud to run around in a bikini in (as opposed to positioning myself in flattering poses for photographs.)
Noeleen has inspired me to change my whole attitude to food and nutrition, and she is without a doubt the best thing I found on my adventures in 2011.
This February she is hosting a talk about nutrition… if you want a better body or more energy or to look half as fabulous as she does at 50 I suggest you go.
Noeleen trains men and women of all shapes and sizes, she charges monthly and no gym membership is required to train with her.
