A streetcat named Sam.

In early 2011 Full Circle Model and Celebrity management put me on their books and made me a basic portfolio out of images I had collected from artistic projects with photographers over the years.
Beautiful as underwater and artistically driven images are, and as much as lingerie shows off the female form, my agency felt clients would feel more comfortable with the sexy and creative being diluted a little with some “digestible” and “normal” lifestyle images.
“Girl in jeans in street, girl hailing cab, lady being domestic with cookies or something” were the words my booker left me with to guide the direction of the test shoots I was likely to encounter whilst abroad.
These shots Rick took of me in the street, with unbrushed hair, minimal makeup and the very simple wardrobe of jeans and a vest turned out exceptionally well and my agency love them. *insert… [ Read more ]
Andrej Pejic
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in Fashion, Modeling on February 28, 2011
Andrej Pejic is the latest androgynous model to take the world by storm. Signed by storm in 2010, this 19 year old boy from Australia has been shot for a plethora of prestigious and fashionable magazines and has walked the runway for Paul Smith, Raf Simons, John Galliano and Jean Paul Gaultier where he modeled both his mens range and the show-stopper bridal piece for his female haute couture line.
Pejic, though not the norm, has been embraced into the fashion world, serving as a fresh canvas for designers wanting to further push the boundries of fashion and society. Fashion has held a recurring obsession with gender roles, mascu-femme, girls in boys clothing, boys in girls clothing… Pejic manages to fill both masculine and feminine roles and stands almost gender neutral, his height, slim hips and chiseled cheekbones making him the perfect clothes hanger.

Postcards from the Past
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in Fashion, Modeling, Swimwear, Vintage on September 15, 2010
On Saturday morning I climbed in front of the camera to model some swimwear and pretty dresses for Beatnik Bazaar.
Having “Saturday” as our call time, I let the morning tea and bed vibes last a little longer than usual, rolled my hair into pin curls, threw on a vintage inspired dress and then set off to Boulders Beach (doing my make-up in the car.)
I arrived, was presented with coffee (just the way I like it) and immediately transformed into a flirtatious stereotype.
How could I help myself? The 50′s is an era that epitomizes girly prettiness for prettiness’s sake. An era where curves and individuality (so long as you were white and good looking) was celebrated in the fashion scene…. the time before heroine chic and twiggy, when cooking was nearly as sexy as suspenders and where models look like they’re… [ Read more ]
Melissa Plastic Dreams
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in Fashion on August 16, 2010

Melissa Plastic Dreams is a shoe manufacturer I truly madly deeply love. Melissa began their journey 30 years ago, inspired by footwear worn by the fishermen of France, and today stand as the leader in design and development of jelly shoe technology.
Melissa shoes are made from MELFLEX plastic – a patented, hypo-allergenic, recyclable and extremely flexible PVC. Melissa shoes recycle 99.9 % of factory water and waste, and use no animal products, making their shoes green and vegan friendly Furthermore, Melissa shoes smell like sweets and remind me of scented My Little Ponys and cupcakes. Even after a year, the smell dominates the shoe section of my walk-in-cupboard.
I first discovered Melissa shoes at Big Blue in Johannesburg and have never quite managed to get the obsession out of my system. They are extremely comfortable, smell delightful, and with the clever collaborations melissa holds with other designers, they hold… [ Read more ]
Sean Laurenz – Fashion
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in Fashion, Test Shoots on May 11, 2010
Shot on the roof of the Grand Daddy Hotel, this is one of my favorite of the fashion series Nena and Sean and I created one unsuspecting Spring Sunday. I love seeing Cape Town city behind her, that tiny patch of blue in the corner, and how everything except for Nena is slightly out of focus.
Make-Up: MAC: Skin: Studio Fix Fluid, studio finish concealer, Prep ‘n Prime transparent finishing powder. Cheeks: “Buff” - matte blush for under the cheekbone and “Pretty Indulgent” - silvery shimmer for a cheek highlight. Eyes: “Blackground” Paint Pot, topped with “Cinderfella” Mineralize eye-shadow (limited edition – similar to “black tied” eye-shadow) and “carbon” (matt) eye-shadow. Lashes were coated with “Zoomblack” mascara and then MAC’s #47 lash for an extreme effect. Finally I lined her water-line with “Fascinating” eye-kohl. Lips were coated with “Explicit” lipgass.
Hair: Hair was sprayed with water, combed back and… [ Read more ]

Revìvere - “to live again” is a series of portraits celebrating style from the 1920’s to the 1960’s. The dolls are unwrapped and brought back to life. The project was the brainchild of Bisera, brought further to life by the large and wonderful team:

Sand on Skin

This shoot is one I smile upon the memory of. The photographic industry is an industry laden with weight upon one’s reputation, yet so often I find the reputations, especially the big ones misleading. Sean Laurenz is as talented as he is genuine, taking photographs that are masterpieces from their first sight as large postage stamps on the back of his canon, to their reception after his careful and genius processing – which unlike some he does entirely himself. Nena Hugo surpassed all of my expectations, fluidly migrating from fashion icon to bohemian beach babe with endless energy and exceptional attention to detail, as well as standing as a phenomenal stylist in her own right. Nick held palm leaves, reflectors and smiles on our faces with equal aplomb. This whole experience was a treat for me
Make-Up and Hair: I kept her skin as translucent as possible with… [ Read more ]
