Jónsi – Go Do
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in Thursday's Theme Song on January 19, 2012

When I heard about Jónsi performing solo instead of with Sigur Rós I was concerned and apprehensive – much like I was when I heard Imogen Heap was performing solo instead of fronting Frou Frou as I was accustomed.
Jónsi proved to be a pleasent surprise, and has given us this lovely little upbeat song to start our day with and wake up dancing, a beautiful contrast to the slow and sleepy effects Sigur Rós have often had on me.
Another fun musical composition from Iceland. I’d love to know what they put in the water.
Check the rad video by clicking this link.
Enjoy, share and smile. xx Samcat
Drive My Car… and baby I love you

Inspired by the amusing comments on Bangers and Nash’s post, today’s Thursday’s themesong is one of my old favorites and relates to these comments in ways I dare be more graceful than to mention so publically.
Enjoy… I always do… and remember – haters will hate and the loathsome will loathe … and nothing will make you feel better than loving them right back.
Caravan Palace
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in Thursday's Theme Song on November 3, 2011
I mentioned Caravan Palace in a past Weekend in Pictures post – but since then the friends I speak to about the band hold the same vacant stares and I think perhaps it was lost on many of you.
Caravan Palace are basically “electro swing” – think cute vintage dresses, swing and jiving dance moves…. just watch the video – they have a dancing robot – what more could you really want?
If you enjoyed that you can listen to a whole playlist of their happy upbeat awesome music here:
Dr Kaye recommends it as fabulous music to dance to whilst making breakfast/hunting for keys.
She & Him
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in Thursday's Theme Song on October 27, 2011
I’ve been meaning to do a post on She & Him for quite some time…
For those of you who don’t know the band (where have you been?) She & Him is an American indie pop duo consisting of Zooey Deschanel (vocals, piano, ukulele) and M. Ward (guitar, production).
Releasing their first album in 2008, the band write their own material, but also do wonderful covers. This is a video from “Fool’s Rush In” - selected for the Levi’s Session’s project where artists were asked to explore their influences.
If you would like to hear some of the music they’ve written themselves – this is the official music video for their single “In the Sun” from their album Volume two.
And then there’s their song “Brand New Shoes” which I love and which saved me on… [ Read more ]
21 Things I want in a Lover
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in Thursday's Theme Song on October 20, 2011

I’ve been single for most of this year. This doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I rather like my own company – and I’d rather be alone than be with someone who doesn’t truly value me.
I was going through some of my old music, and I came across this little gem which pretty much sums up how I feel.
So thanks for this Thursday’s theme song Alanis – you make me smile.
lyrics:
Do you derive joy when someone else succeeds?
Do you not play dirty when engaged in competition?
Do you have a big intellectual capacity but know
that it alone does not equate to wisdom?
Do you see everything as an illusion
but enjoy it even though you are not of it?
Are you both masculine and feminine, politically aware, and don’t believe in capital punishment?
These are 21 things that… [ Read more ]
Kutiman
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in Thursday's Theme Song on October 13, 2011

One of the coolest things I have come accross on Youtube is Kutiman.
Kutiman is a musician, composer, producer and animator from Israel – but he is best known for the magic he weaves through Youtube.
Kutiman takes youtube clips that strangers post on the internet of themselves singing, playing instruments, making what you may consider to be music, or what you may consider to be noise – and then weaves them together, composing new songs, using the clips he has spliced together to make a spliced music video for his song – showing you where his sounds are coming from and giving you a little taste of the story behind them.
I’m going to give you three of his videos – the first is one is my current obsession this Thursday and feels a little like Portishead ~ [boys might want to start with the second or third videos… [ Read more ]
What the Water Gave Me – You’re a Wolf
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in Thursday's Theme Song on October 6, 2011

There have been two songs haunting me this Thursday. Last week I gave you an amazing video linked to an awesome song – I thought I’d give save the video amazement I have in my quiver for next week and alternate this week with a video that is haunting me simply for the music’s sake.
The First is “What the Water Gave Me” – from Florence and the Machine’s new album – which was seconded by the amazing Karen Churchless who you may or may not be lucky enough to know.
The second song which I’ve been haunted by and have been playing to death is a little older.
“You’re a Wolf” by Sea Wolf came onto my playlist via a soundtrack… I’m sure a lot of you have heard it, but I’m hoping that one of the amazing DJ’s who read this blog (I can think of… [ Read more ]
One Breath vs Dean’s Blue Hole
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in Thursday's Theme Song on September 29, 2011

I meet a lot of pretty awesome people, one of the results is that I get exposed to some pretty awesome music I didn’t previously know about – that and random Youtube videos. Youtube is my small-talk answer to “how’s this weather we’ve been having?”
I like sharing, so have decided to bring you a video - every Thursday – of something awesome I’ve come past from the days of internet past – or perhaps present if I ever get that hip – but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
This video is of base jumpers/divers/free-fallers, one camerawoman [the french champion Julie Gautier] and one “jumper/diver/superman” [World champion Guillaume Nery] - on one single breath, with zero breathing apparatus.
The Dive is at Dean’s Hole – which at 202 meters is the deepest known blue whole in the world. I have had enough underwater shoots to tell you with… [ Read more ]
