Noeleen’s first CT seminar for 2012
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in 2012 events, Beauty, Tips and Tricks on January 24, 2012

Thos of you who follow me on social media will have heard me talking about Noeleen, the amazing feline model of firm female form who has been teaching me about nutrition, self control and who has been toning my body into something I’d be proud to run around in a bikini in (as opposed to positioning myself in flattering poses for photographs.)
Noeleen has inspired me to change my whole attitude to food and nutrition, and she is without a doubt the best thing I found on my adventures in 2011.
This February she is hosting a talk about nutrition… if you want a better body or more energy or to look half as fabulous as she does at 50 I suggest you go.
Noeleen trains men and women of all shapes and sizes, she charges monthly and no gym membership is required to train with her.
Deep Blue – Rick Nunn – Project 50

Remember that awesome photographer doing that awesome Project 50 thing I told you about yesterday? Well not only did he shoot me for day 11, but he also shot me for day 12.
Rick ordered an “o flash” online and decided I was a good test subject for his first shoot with it.
An “O flash” or “ring flash” is a ring of light that fits around the lens of the camera. Here is a picture to illustrate.
As you can see, the o-flash can be attached to the camera which makes it a popular choice for photographers at festivals or on the move as they do not have to carry bulky softboxes (those big square boxes on stands covered in sand bags and often with wires connecting to a generator or plug point) or beauty dishes (those big satellite looking lights.)

Mask Making in London – Halloween Prep
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in London, Tips and Tricks on October 9, 2011
This Tuesday, if I was not driving out to Nottingham to watch Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler *insert smug grin* I would be attending the mask making workshop being hosted by Cabinet of Curious Creatures as part of the Hendricks lecture series.
The Cabinet of Curious Creatures are a magical indulgence of imagination and creativity and have travelled the UKs festival scene delighting the masses for quite some time.
“This specific workshop will focus on creating individual Halloween based creatures encouraging you to delve into the darkest corners of your soul. You will be making 3D bespoke structures that you will then decorate using a wide variety of sumptuous materials to help facilitate the birth of your forthcoming creature.”
- Sounds pretty good to me – and at only 12 pounds it is very affordable.
Doors open at 6pm, the workshop commences at 7pm and it is all… [ Read more ]
How to Wear Red Eye Shadow
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in Tips and Tricks on February 23, 2011

Red eye shadow is huge in fashion editorials and on the runway right now. Of course, there are no rules for fashion show or shoot makeup so it begs the question: can a normal woman pull this bold colour off on her eyes without looking like a vampire?
When I set out to write this post I originally aimed to create a red eye makeup look you could re-create at home.
Alas, after visiting MAC, Chanel, Dior, Guerlian, Estee Lauder, Clinique and Bobbi Brown I am sad to announce that not one of these brands brings red eye shadow into SA.
I then decided to improvise and went in search of a red blusher (as long as it’s high-quality, blusher is a good second option for the eye) or a red eye-liner.
Still I had no luck.
I then considered demonstrating how to blend a red lip liner around the… [ Read more ]
How to make your tan last longer
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in Tips and Tricks on January 26, 2011
Not many people have the luxury or freedom of tanning whenever they want. For most South Africans the summer holiday has now moved from the weekdays to the weekends, so for those of you who savour your brown selves here are five tips to help you hang on to your tan.
Exfoliate before tanning. If you’re going the sun route, then a soft, smooth skin will ensure you tan more evenly and if you’re doing the burn-safe option of a faux tan, then exfoliated skin will help you avoid any telltale streaky lines and ensure that your faux tan lasts its longest.
Build your tan gradually. Getting burnt by the sun results in nasty, peeling skin that leads to a patchy tan that fades quickly. Riemann P20 sunscreen (available at your pharmacy) offers excellent protection against harmful UV exposure but still allows the UV rays that cause us to tan to penetrate the skin.… [ Read more ]
The Beauty Ambassadors for Woolies
Posted by Samantha Laura Kaye in Tips and Tricks on September 25, 2010

Beauty Ambassador Number One:
Cara Knight Dawson is a brand strategist. She is in her twenties and finds her current skincare regime leaves her skin dry and does not do enough preventative care for future pigmentation and aging. She favors natural make-up and wanted to look like herself…. only better.
To tackle her skin concerns we recommended the Sisley range, amongst which is the amazing Sisley “Hydra Global” which is an intense Anti-Aging Hydration product aimed at women in their twenties and thirties. It uses malachite to protect the skin and essential oils (wild pansy, olive, chestnut, lavendar, sage and majoram) to stimulate the skin resulting in smooth even features. It also boosts the synthesis of Aquaporins-3 which enhances water circulation inside the skin and it reinforces the cutaneous barrier which prevents water evaporating from the skin and results in an intensely hydrated, radiant, plump and youthful complexion. We then… [ Read more ]

Beautiful Skin

Pro Tip: What makes this photograph for me is Chantelle’s skin. There are a variety of tricks I used to make Chantelle’s skin glow this way, read on and I will share them with you.
1) Hydrate. Luba is a photographer who chooses models who do not smoke, drink coffee 24 hours before the shoot and who drink a lot of water. However this is not always enough. Make sure you use a good moisturiser prior to you make-up application, and whenever the skin looks or feel thirsty spray it with a fine water mist – I like to use the body shop’s “vitamin C spray” or MAC’s Fix+ spray – both have… [ Read more ]

Pro Tip: When dealing with something fiddly such as petals or feathers or individual lashes use tweezers to position the object in place, check the direction of the curve of the hair/petal and hold in place until secure. Using as little glue as possible cover the tip of the lash or petal and wait for the glue to become tacky before adhering it to the skin.
