Weekend in Onesies.

This weekend was one of altered plans - almost every plan I made changed last minute – but I honestly feel that being spontaneous and free is good for the soul… and I can only be grateful for what turned out to be a wonderful and giggle-full weekend.

Friday morning, post cheese and wine feasting, I watched the sunrise from the que outside the Apple store in Brighton. I was dreading the whole process, but – eager to buy my new iPhone4S after grieving my 2nd iPhone4 for the last 2 weeks – I went forward with a smile on my face and ended up giggling my way through the que with my new friend before entering the store around 9am and buying my beloved apple of joy.

A huge thank you to Josh from the Apple Store in Brighton, and to my new friend @asguardclone – and everyone else… [ Read more ]

FHM’s 89th Sexiest Woman in the World

FHM South Africa came out with their 100 sexiest women in the world list earlier this year…. and much to my shock and disbelief I was on it!!

Thank you to Rio for bringing me a copy of the magazine, all the way from South Africa so that I could scan in the above photograph as well as the whole page:

Yep – I beat Ke$ha, Selena Gomez, Britney (99 – she barely made it this year), Kim Kardashian, Eva Longaria and a coupe of people I’ve never heard of. I had never entered a beauty pageant before or any sort of competition like this – but thanks to a series of online votes from the interwebs at large I was honoured with an official sexy stamp which I find puzzling, amazing, delightful and with a history of childhood bullying and low self esteem, a tad bizarre.

Thanks… [ Read more ]

Gothic Playtime

A few weeks ago I found myself in Robert Miller‘s studio for an afternoon of “play.” Rob and I hoped to tackle the challenge of gothic/vampire pale – something which is extremely difficult for photographers and make-up artists to get right.

Despite the difficulty of the task, I feel that Rob and I nailed it and produced one of the better examples of gothic glam.

I used Kryolan water-based white face paint on my skin, applying it first in thick sweeping motions with MAC’s #187 brush, and then smoothing it over smaller areas with the #249 brush and buffing it into delicate skin such as around the eyes with the #227 brush. The amazing shiny lip was produced by using Hourglass “Extreme Sheen” in “Siren.” Hourglass is an amazing brand that I discovered whilst in Los Angeles last December – seek out the hourglass mascara for great definition… [ Read more ]

Pictures of Paradise

IMG_1452

As most of you know, I have just returned from my vacation at Le Touessrok Resort aka paradise.

I have been agonising over what first to blog about, I’ve had requests for lists of products I take on vacation, what I pack into my suitcase, but mostly you guys have asked me for pretty pictures. I am not a photographer, and took these shots with a little canon powershot given to me by the lovely Robert Miller instead of my SLR, but I think they serve the purpose of illustrating some of my favorite things about the resort. Check out the Le Touessrok Resort site to look at more photos and to look at the golf course and other manly things that fail to interest Lady Kaye.

Before you look, try to remember that however lovely it may look in photographs, it is infinitely more impressive in… [ Read more ]

From Mauritius with Love

Hello Darlings,

As many of you know I reside in the lovely city of Cape Town – the same place that has been hosting the soccer world cup for the past few weeks. Many Cape Tonians have caught this “world cup fever” and have abandoned their normal disinterest in soccer, adorned football shirts, flagged mirror condoms on their cars and hosted or attended soccer themed parties whilst merrily blowing into their vuvuzelas with gay abandon.

I am not one of those people.

Immune to the “world cup fever” I have no shame in saying I STILL have no interest in soccer… and the thought of being in a room full of vuvuzelas scares me as much as being in a room full of screaming women and homosexuals at a Spring Versace/Louis Vuitton/Jimmy Choo fashion show (if South Africa would ever be so blessed as to host such a thing)… [ Read more ]

Tretchikoff & Me

For those of you who weren’t at the opening and have not yet seen it, get yourself over to Salon 91 on Kloof Street and check out the Tretchikoff & Me exhibition of vintage Tretchikoff prints, juxtaposed against the contemporary responses (ceramic, printmaking and photographic) of local South African artists. Niklas Zimmer is the featured photographer, and I painted the beautiful ladies he featured in his photographs using a combination of MAC and Chanel concealers and oil-based Kryolan face-paints. I achieved the “water droplets” with tubes of Mac’s clear lipglass. Far more impressive in real life – I suggest you take a wander down Kloof Street and have a look for yourself.

Our Team consisted of:

Photographer: Niklas Zimmer

Lighting Design: Yotam Sandak

Stylist: Bella Knemeyer

Hair and Make-up Artist: Samantha Laura Kaye

Assistant : Penny Youngleson.

Models wish to remain anonymous.

Everything’s Gonna Be Okay

The 90′s were an awkward decade. They brought us crochet shirts, goa-inspired prints, grunge, flannel (thanks Kurt) and saw the “new age” movement resurrected from the grave that the shoulder-pad clad glam’s of the 80′s pushed it into. However the 90′s was not an entirely “lost” decade trying to find itself in whale sounds. . . on the contrary the 90′s gave its youth the freedom to truly express themselves as fashion turned individualistic (think custom jeans, and T-shirts with a message) and/or counter cultural as tattoos and piercings  started to become accepted and popular, along with retro styles as people looked back to the 60′s and 70′s for fashion inspiration. The 90′s also saw an increasing acceptance of homo-sexuality and tolerance. In 1990 the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from its list of diseases and in 1994 South Africa saw an end to Apartheid.
