This year I’ve managed to have a macbook pro stolen from under my table while I ate dinner at a restaurant, an iPhone4 smash and grabbed from my car (insert additional window replacement cost) and two Saturday’s ago my second iPhone4 – this one a 32gig model – was stolen from my handbag in a London club…

The frequency of stranger’s referring to me as Snow White coupled with this recent “apple curse” (through cruel twists of fate, circumstance and my own stupidity insurance has not assisted me with replacing any of these products) as my nearest and dearest are calling it  has led me to do a fair bit of Snow White research over the last week as I hunted for the perfect Snow White costume to wear while I que outside the apple store – desperate to get my fix and return to the digital high that only Apple has been able to bring me to date.

This hunt has led me to a crazy volume of Snow White images, from decals to illustrations, parodies to costumes to pin-ups to tattooed, lesbian and drug addicted snow whites – even a baby snow white choking on apple baby food. This shoot was Neal’s first boudoir shoot. I met Neal through Robyn early 2010 and through twitter and the #27dinners we became friends.

Neal enjoys taking photographs, and I enjoy being in photographs so he decided to bring me on board to tackle his first boudoir shoot and first shoot with someone there with the specific purpose of having their photograph taken (as opposed to just doing their thing and being cught on camera.)

I honestly cannot believe this was Neal’s “first real shoot” – he’s not really into the photoshop thing which I must admit terrified me at first… (lame but it was only my third lingerie shoot) but I am actually extremely pleased with the results and pretty sure that the above displayed “late night snack” photograph was a huge part of what got me into” FHM’s 100 sexiest women in the word 2011″ list. (My neurosis doesn’t come across in photographs somehow.)

My favourite shot is the ice-cream one above, I also am totally in love with the kitchen of the house we were lucky enough to borrow in De Waterkant. Here’s the ice-cream shot in colour so you can perve over the LED backlit wall behind the counter. *want*

Kass is one of the best swimsuit photographers in our pretty city, so I wanted to make the most of this little test shoot we did for Claudi. I picked gold as my theme and accent, working with various hues and levels of reflection in the make-up. First I smoothed her skin with MAC’s Studio Finish Foundation. Then I contoured her face with a combination of Mac’s Sculpt and Shape powders, MAC’s loose Golden Bronze shimmer powder and Mineralise Skinfinish in Shimpagne and Shooting Star. I started on Claudi’s eyes by applying a thin layer of Guerlain Ombre Eclat Eye Shadow Primer - (which happens to be the BEST eye-primer I have ever laid my hands on) and then I shaded a traditional beauty eye using pigments for shimmer and MAC’s eye-shadows in “beauty marked”, “bronze” and “espresso“. I lined her eyes with” smoulder” eye kohl, smudged them with MAC’s #219 pencil brush and then applied MAC’s #36 lash. I lined her lips with “subculture” lip pencil and then filled them with MAC’s “gold shimmer” lipstick and topped them off with “wet wild and wonderful” lip-gloss which I customized by blending with a white gold pigment.

I let her hair do its own thing, simply enhancing the shine a little with OSIS “magic” serum.

Make-Up: MAC: Skin: Studio Fix Fluid, studio finish concealer, Prep ‘n Prime transparent finishing powder. Cheeks: “Buff” - matte blush for under the cheekbone and “Pretty Indulgent” - silvery shimmer for a cheek highlight. Eyes: “Blackground” Paint Pot, topped with “Cinderfella” Mineralize eye-shadow (limited edition – similar to “black tied” eye-shadow) and “carbon” (matt) eye-shadow. Lashes were coated with “Zoomblack” mascara and then MAC’s #47 lash for an extreme effect. Finally I lined her water-line with “Fascinating” eye-kohl. Lips were coated with “Explicit” lipgass and lined with “Stripdown” lip pencil.

Hair: Hair was sprayed with hairspray for texture, and then braided into a loose side-plait.

Eyes: Paintpot in “BlackGround” topped with “Cinderfella” mineralise shadow, as well as normal MAC eye-shadows in “Carbon“, “Garcon Grey“,”Brule” and “Vanilla“. Technakohl liner in “Graphblack” and mascara in”blacksplash” waterproof mascara. Finally #37 lash is applied and topped with “blacktrack” fluidline. Lips lined with “Subculture” lip pencil and filled with “crescent” (limited ed) lipglass.

This image is taken from a series of images shot for Pasella – where I was given exactly 20 minutes for hair and make-up (including liquid liner and false lashes.) I like this image because it’s clearly a portrait, yet one cannot make eye-contact with the model – which makes this image (compared to the others from this shoot) more powerful in my eyes. Lyndall had just received her title as FHM’s sexiest SA Woman for 2009 and I felt very privileged to have worked with her.

“Looking though the window at life. You look amazing to me” is the title given to this photograph by the model, Kira Wilkinson. Kira and I shared a chalet whilst touring Jo-Burg with Madame Zingara and when she finally returned back from the UK I felt privileged to finally work with her on a test. I really love the ambiance of this photograph, the lighting, the reflections in the glass and the neutral colour palette. I hope to work with this team again soon!

Main Make-up ingredients: MAC: Face and Body in C6, brow-gel in clear,  eyeshadows in “brule”, “embark”, “cork” and “shroom”, technakohl liner in “graphblack”.

Pro Tip: When you’re applying your make-up with a clean, natural or matt look in mind use a non-reflective eye-shadow like MAC’s “brule” and then apply a colour like “shroom” (which is basically the same colour in a more reflective texture) in small doses under the arch of the brow or in-between the eyes on top of the bridge of the nose. Doing this helps to contour the face, draw attention to specific areas and sculpt the face – and the application of a non-shiny version of the colour first allows the eyeshadow to “dilute” making blending and subtelty easier.
